The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) is proud to announce a full summer schedule of fun-filled and family-friendly events, from a new Pride Month celebration to the fan-favorite Flicks from the Hill series.

“Join AVAM for an action-packed summer filled with fun programmatic surprises that welcome all!” proclaims AVAM Executive Director Ellen Owens. “There’s something for everyone, from a drag queen story time to an intricate domino topple, our palace for the imagination is the perfect escape from the summertime blues!”

The upcoming schedule of events includes:

• A family-friendly event designed to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and its inspiring connections to visionary art. Activities FREE with museum admission include a Drag Storytime with artist Lemon X Fluiditea, “Queer Voices Through Art” docent-led tours, and a Pride Center of Maryland resource table. The Design Divine Paper Doll workshop is an additional $10 for non-members, with all materials provided.

• Glimmer in the Garden | June 11, 6:00 - 9:00 PM | See Full Details

• A magical after-hours event with crafting, cocktails, and lite fare in our Sculpture Garden. Create your own Beaded Potted Plant, jazzing it up with a splash of beads and baubles from AVAM's glittering stash. All you can enjoy light fare and drink is included with event admission. • A special celebration of Juneteenth highlighting the incredible contributions and legacy of Black artists and culture, complete with a full schedule of family-friendly activities designed to connect the community through art, history, and storytelling. • Artist Carol Auerbach guides participants through fundamental techniques of watercolor painting, drawing inspiration from the lively scenes of the Baltimore Harbor. Meet in the Jim Rouse Visionary Center (JRVC) 2nd floor Classroom. $35 for non-members, $20 for AVAM members.

• Reaching for Hope: Maryland Domino Topplers 2026 | July 11, 2:00PM | AVAM Sculpture Barn

• A team of more than 50 self-taught artists and builders will descend upon the AVAM to create a memorable work of Kinetic Performance Art using dominoes, planks, boxes, books, and other chain-reaction elements. This year's display will feature a massive 1500 square-foot mural on the theme of "Reaching for Hope". Visitors can spectate the domino set-up beginning July 5. • A virtual program offering a behind-the-scenes look at one of AVAM’s featured artists, Matt Sesow: an American contemporary painter known for his raw, emotionally charged, and visceral expressionistic canvases.
